Each fall and spring the Junior League of the Lehigh Valley welcomes new members to join the League. As a part of the orientation and membership process, new members (called provisional members) work together to develop and deliver a service project with a community organization. The JLLV Spring 2019 New Member (Provisional) Class led an art class for children ages 6-10 at Third Street Alliance in Easton on April 6. The class decided to focus on arts and the environment, and used recyclable materials including plastic soda bottles and milk jugs to create planters. Children decorated the planters and then planted potted plants. At the end of the program, each family received a “swag bag” including art supplies such as coloring books and crayons and healthy snacks such as granola bars and fruit squeeze-ups. Additionally, the swag bags included travel-sized toiletries such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, and shampoo for the women at the shelter. The JLLV is proud of our newest class of members for a thoughtful and impactful project. The class will be present their project and be formally welcomed into the League at the May General Membership Meeting.
